Cover a wave

Covering a wave means being in position to collect it or prevent enemy pressure while a teammate moves elsewhere.

A jungler may cover for a laner who recalled, preserving experience and protecting the turret.

Useful cover does not always end in a gank; preventing lost resources can justify the move on its own.
