Disengage

Disengage breaks off or prevents a fight the opponent wants to force.

Slowing, displacing or protecting an ally can buy time to retreat and regroup. It is not surrendering: it may set up a better fight.

A composition with strong disengage can frustrate enemy engages but must save its key tools.
