Ultimate

An ultimate, or ult, is the ability usually assigned to R and often has an especially important effect.

Not every ultimate is a large damage hit: some protect, reposition or control a fight. Availability affects fight choices.

Fighting while an enemy ultimate is on cooldown can create an opening even with equal gold.
